aniel Bourbonnais, professeur titulaire et Directeur de l’École de réadaptation assume depuis le 1er juillet les fonctions de vice-doyen à la recherche et à l’innovation scientifique de la Faculté de médecine de l’Université de Montréal. C’est la première fois à l’Université de Montréal qu’un ergothérapeute est nommé à la tête d’un poste de cette envergure.

Après avoir complété son doctorat en sciences neurologiques en 1984, Daniel Bourbonnais a réalisé des stages post-doctoraux au CNRS de Marseille, à Northwestern University et au Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Il a débuté sa carrière académique à l’Université deMontréal en 1987 au programme d’ergothérapie et au programme d’études supérieures.

Bourbonnais a été chercheur-boursier du Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec pendant 12 ans et directeur scientifique du Centre de recherche l’Institut de réadaptation Gingras-Lindsay de Montréal pendant quatre ans. Ses travaux en rééducation neurologique sont connus à travers le monde et lui ont valu en 2007 d’être nommé membre de la prestigieuse Académie de recherche de la Fondation américaine des ergothérapeute, pour sa contribution exceptionnelle à l’avancement des connaissances en ergothérapie. Huit professeurs en ergothérapie et en réadaptation dans différentes universités nord-américaines et européenne ont réalisé leur doctorat sous sa direction.

Durant son mandat de directeur, l’École de réadaptation a connu un essor sans précédent. Les continuums baccalauréat-maîtrise en

ergothérapie et physiothérapie ont été implantés et les cohortes étudiantes ont augmenté pour atteindre un nombre de 120 étudiants admis en ergothérapie, chaque année. Ces nouveaux programmes, basés sur des approches pédagogiques actives, ont valu program-me d’ergothérapie, le prix de l’Innovation pédagogique du Provost, en 2010. Également sous son leadership, l’École a aménagé dans de nouveaux locaux plus spacieux et adaptés aux nouvelles approches pédagogiques.

En somme, sa maîtrise des dossiers liés aussi bien à l’enseignement qu’à la recherche, son intérêt pour le développement de l’ergothérapie et ses qualités de gestionnaire chevronné le prédisposaient à occuper ce poste stratégique. L’équipe du programme d’ergothérapie remercie Daniel Bourbonnais pour lui avoir insufflé la motivation nécessaire à son développement des dernières années et pour lui avoir donner les moyens de se réaliser. Elle lui souhaite énormément de succès dans ses nouvelles fonctions.

Coming in the fall of 2011, OS&OT will contribute to the UBC Celebrate Learning Week by organizing a “Conversations on Occupation” Café which will highlight the topic of work-life-balance and strategies for embracing ideas that foster the learning environment. This event will mark a fantastic end to a successful Golden Anniversary year.

he Faculté de médecine et des sciences de la santé of the Université de Sherbrooke is proud to announce that the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists has just awarded its occupational therapy program its first accreditation in recognition of the high quality education it provides.This four-year program employs a variety of teaching methods such as problem-based learning, mentoring and six fieldworks involving about 1,300 hours of clinical training.

The accreditation of our program was confirmed just before the first cohort of students graduated inApril 2011.This achievement was the result of the outstanding dedication of many people who helped to develop this 13th Canadian occupational therapy university program. We want to thank all the tutors, lecturers, trainers, mentors, clinical supervisors and students who worked to get it up and running with the faculty members.

In the near future, the program resources will be expanded to include a rehabilitation clinic that will serve clients while contributing to the clinical education of students. The Université de Sherbrooke is proud to contribute to the development of occupational therapy in Canada.
