E
very year the Rehabilita-
tion Science Students
Association (RSA) com-
memorates the events of the past
12 months for the occupational
therapy and physiotherapy
programs in book form. It is a
reflection and compilation of all
the significant memories and
moments of the year. RSA is
inviting the community to get
involved and support RSA
through advertising in the
publication. Many organizations
use the book as a venue for
recruiting, branding recognition,
promoting a company, product
or service to future customers or
to show support for the school.
Occupational therapy and
physiotherapy are distinct and
independent professions under
the umbrella of Rehabilitation
Science at McMaster. The school
has 27 university and 190
clinical and professional faculty
and associate faculty members
who provide clinical placements,
tutoring and teaching.
OT is a health profession
which makes an important
contribution to the everyday
lives of Canadians. Members of
this profession use theoretical
approaches as well as occupa-
tional
and
client-centred
perspectives based on a holistic
set of values and beliefs to
guide practice.
The profession’s concern is
for the occupational needs of
individuals
and
society.
Occupational therapists are
trained to assist clients of all ages
achieve a maximal level of func-
tion and independence with
everyday activities.
Physiotherapy is a dynamic
health care profession with
foundations in theory, research
and specialized clinical expert-
ise. Physiotherapy is focussed on
maximizing quality of life and
movement potential through
enabling individuals to preserve,
develop, and/or restore move-
ment, function and health.
This encompasses physical,
psychological, emotional and
social well-being.

universities
(provincially,
nationally and internationally)
our central administration has
agreed to take part, with the
Faculty of Health Sciences, in
assuring two thirds of our
budget will support the Clinic.
This is a very fine achievement!
The second big piece of
news is that the Faculty of
Medicine at the University of
Ottawa has been very active in
collaborating with the Clinic to
find strong links between clini-
cal learning and servicing
objectives and its medical
learning objective of its first
year training. This collabora-
tion has been documented and
measured and will shortly be
reported in Medical Teacher.
Another level of medical
training is the third year one
week rehabilitation fieldwork
placement. Medical students
spend a day at the Clinic
working with other future
healthcare professions.
Our third big piece of news
is that the very new nutrition
program of the Faculty of
Health Sciences is now
regularly sending its students to
the Clinic for their clinical
placements, and this is a
remarkable asset to the
educational team. We have been
able to fund a senior clinical
educator in nutrition position.
